Come join us for the opening of our new children’s exhibit – The Curiosity Collection – at the Lawshe Memorial Museum!

The Curiosity Collection features 4 new interactive zones aimed at sharing history with our youngest visitors: explore the fossil history of Dakota County in a big dig; push buttons and learn how rural electrification progressed in our region through Dakota Electric; try your hand at measuring weights and loading the carts in the South St. Paul Stockyards; and build your own exhibit in miniature while learning about how collections like ours are built!

In 2023, the Dakota County Historical Society received $275,000 in state appropriations to be used on small renovations through the Legacy Finance Committee thanks in part to the efforts of Dakota County Commissioner Joe Atkins, State Representative Rick Hansen, and State Senator Matt Klein. An additional $251,000 in state appropriations was received thanks in part to Dakota County Commissioner Joe Atkins, State Representative Mary Frances Clardy, and State Senator Matt Klein. These funds were used to fabricate and install The Curiosity Collection children’s exhibit with Kidzibits.
