About
Spanning from the Caspian Sea to the Carpathian Mountains, the Slavic world has a rich and dynamic history of craft embroidery practices, folk dress traditions, and creative rituals. Participants in this introductory course will have an opportunity to learn about some of the regional designs and histories of Slavic folk embroidery, experience a traditional Slavic tea service, and examine vibrant antique and archival textile samples of Slavic folk costumes. The tactile element of this course includes instruction in the basic-intermediate cross stitch technique fundamental to traditional Slavic embroidery. Participants will be provided with all craft materials necessary to enjoy the lesson (e.g. canvas materials, needles, threads, full-color pattern). Instructed by Sarah Rosenthal of Rysalka Studiya.
