About

Explore the Galaxy at Split Rock Lighthouse – A Bell Museum Star Party Wednesday, September 18 | Split Rock Lighthouse Historic Site

Join us for an unforgettable evening under the stars at one of Minnesota’s most iconic landmarks! In partnership with the Bell Museum, we’re hosting a Star Party at Split Rock Lighthouse—a night of stargazing, storytelling, and astrophotography along the stunning North Shore.

Astronomy Highlights with Bob King

We’re thrilled to welcome Bob King, longtime Sky & Telescope contributor, community astronomy educator, and author of the Astro Bob blog. Bob will bring a 15-inch telescope for deep-sky viewing and a Seestar for deep-sky astrophotography. He’ll also lead laser-guided constellation tours throughout the evening—an experience you won’t want to miss.

Night Sky Photography with Hayes Scriven

Interested in capturing the night sky on camera? Hayes Scriven, Site Manager at Split Rock Lighthouse, will guide a beginner-friendly session on night photography techniques. Learn how to focus in the dark, set your camera for low-light conditions, and compose stunning images of the stars.

What to Bring (if you're photographing):

  1. DSLR or mirrorless camera

  2. Wide-angle lens (f/3.0 or faster; f/2.8 or lower recommended)

  3. Sturdy tripod

Whether you're an avid stargazer, a budding astrophotographer, or simply curious about the night sky, this event is the perfect opportunity to explore the universe with fellow enthusiasts in a breathtaking setting.
