About

Spend a glorious fall weekend on Minnesota’s North Shore gaining hands-on experience and learning from field experts.

Workshops are hosted at the Wolf Ridge campus and surrounding natural areas, with lodging and meals included. Designed for lifelong learners with a passion for the outdoors, the experience welcomes both seasoned naturalists and curious beginners. Each participant selects a single workshop for the weekend while enjoying opportunities to connect with other groups during shared meals and evening programs.

This workshop offers an activity-based introduction to fall raptor banding, with a focus on owls migrating along the Lake Superior corridor. The primary emphasis is on Northern Saw-whet Owls, but you’ll also explore other species such as Long-eared, Boreal, and Great Gray Owls. Participants will receive direct instruction in capturing, handling, aging, and processing owls, as well as an introduction to additional monitoring techniques used across Minnesota.

Engaging, educational, and unforgettable, the weekend blends science, discovery, and the natural beauty of the North Shore.
