Badoura Jack Pine Woodland SNA
About
Badoura Jack Pine Woodland is one of the largest examples of a mature jack pine woodland community represented on an SNA. The only other site, LaSalle Lake SNA, suffered the loss of most of its mature jack pine in a 2012 windstorm. These woodlands are considered critically imperiled in Minnesota, and globally rare.
Visitors here will appreciate the relatively open aspect of the jack pine woodland with its beautiful understory of blueberries, bearberry and snowberry, along with prairie species such as hoary puccoon and heart-leaved alexander. This is also an important location for native Hill's thistle with its fist-sized violet blooms.
This site has no maintained trails or other recreational facilities. This site is adjacent to Badoura State Forest.
