Minnesota's Best Meat and Butcher Shops

By Natalia Mendez

With access to abundant farmland, quality grains, and ample pastures for grazing, it’s no wonder Minnesota has some of the country’s best meat shops and butchers. Hungry for steaks, chops, meat sticks, and jerky? Belly up to the very best in Minneapolis-St. Paul and beyond in our complete guide below.

Minneapolis

More than just an artisan butcher shop, Clancey’s is a community hub that features locally raised meats, house-made sausage, and farm-fresh veggies. For those looking to pick up whole ducks and rabbits for their cooking, they can be found here, too.

It’s also a great spot to grab breakfast or lunch. They make hearty sandwiches with their high-quality cuts on bread from the Minneapolis bakery Patisserie 46 until it runs out. Look out for proud ingredient lists throughout their takeout menu — ones that reference everything from regional mayo and mustard companies to raw, grated horseradish. Not to mention daily specials like duck banh mi and a seasonal club sandwich.

Neighborhood butcher shop Everett’s Foods has been family-owned and operated since 1956. Aside from the usual staples, they grind their own sausages and smoke popular cuts like ribs in two on-site smokers. Their beef jerky is next-level, and you can find unique deli meats in loaf form, including slabs of fryer-ready bologna and slices studded with olives or jalapeños.

Don’t skip a treat for your pooch, either! Smoked dog bones are available for your four-legged friend.

Robbinsdale

Downtown Robbinsdale’s oldest business is a butcher shop that has been in operation for more than 120 years. Ande St. Michael and Dustan Posch became its new owners in 2025 and have every intention of keeping their snappy old-fashioned wieners, thick-cut bacon, and house-ground beef in rotation. Find ham spread and head cheese alongside house-made smoked meat sticks, bockwursts, bratwursts, ring bologna, and long tubes of traditional German-style “yard sausage.”

The specialty makes sense; many Minnesotans have German roots. In fact, it’s often the state’s largest self-reported ancestral group, which helps explain why our meat shops often know a thing or two about sausages.

If you’re looking for swanky cuts, look no further than J. Morten’s. It’s where you’ll find locally raised, heritage-bred Berkshire and Duroc pork with beautiful marbling and flavor or Iberico ham, which derives its depth of flavor from a strict diet of acorns, herbs, and grass. Japanese and Australian wagyu are imported, too, and USDA prime cuts are dry-aged on-site so you can sear tender steaks as soon as you get home.

Minneapolis

Kramarczuk’s has been serving and selling Eastern European fare in northeast Minneapolis since 1954. Each sausage is made in-house, including bulk chubs of hot Italian sausage, fresh and smoked bratwurst, and summer sausage. The meat case features flavors from around the world, including mild pork Krakowska, South African boerewors, coarse-ground Ukrainian kovbasa, and jaternice, a Czech-style sausage made with pork liver and grains.

If you’d rather sample their signature meats and other regional specialties first, Kramarczuk’s has a large cafeteria-style restaurant next door to its butcher shop and bakery. Be sure to load your tray to the brim with cabbage rolls, pierogis, several kinds of smoked sausage, and hearty stews like borscht, goulash, and bigos.

Morelli’s Market
St. Paul

This family-owned Italian meat market and liquor store, which opened in 1915, now sells more spirits, beer, and wine than meat. Don’t let that deter you from checking out freezers filled with trimmed short ribs (perfect for pasta sauce), Bavarian-style brats, and house-made Neapolitan sausages. They also offer homemade pasta, pizza sauces, ravioli, spices, imported pastas, and desserts.

Minnesota’s growing Muslim population has led to more small markets that specialize in Halal-certified meat. Pangea caters to the culinary traditions of community members from East Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, making it easier to explore the flavors of the world within the metro area. Beef and chicken are available, along with Minnesota-raised lamb and goat.

Don’t skip lunch at their hot bar — the bread is baked in-house and stuffed with everything from ethereal falafel to chicken and beef shawarma — and be sure to bring some sweet treats from the bakery, too.
