Artist Reception for Linnea Rose

Come and meet artist, Linnea Borealis Rose at the Tettegouche Visitor Center on May 2nd at 7 pm. Linnea will present her show, "Along the Superior Hiking Trail" that was inspired by her backpacking journeys between Tettegouche and Cascade River State Parks. Linnea's work will be on display for the month of May.

Betty Gaedtke: Recreating Traditional Mississippian Pottery

Betty Gaedtke is an Elder of the Quapaw Nation of Oklahoma and a traditional potter. She specializes in recreating vessels made by her Quapaw Ancestors of Arkansas during the Mississippian Period.

The Mississippian Period, (roughly 1,000-1500 CE) was a time of cultural explosion. People across America were experimenting with new forms of farming and government. Trade and new art forms flourished while people built pyramids and America's first cities.

Ms. Gaedtke will share the history of her Tribe, family, and Quapaw/Mississippian pottery.

Artist and Author Talk with Sam Zimmerman

Inspired to reconnect with his Ojibwe heritage and to share it with others, artist Sam Zimmerman / Zhaawanoogiizhik returns home to family and his Ojibwe culture and relates Ojibwe stories and underlying symbols through his artwork.

Sam will also share an early preview of his work that he is doing in Tettegouche State Park as the MNPAIR artist in residence.

Arrowheads and Stone Tools

Learn about the art of making spear points and arrowheads, and how modern flint knappers keep this ancient craft alive. The event will include hands-on crafts, games, and demonstrations.
