Masters of Hawaiian Music

Three Masters, featured regularly at Maui’s renowned Slack Key Show, share the uniquely Hawaiian styles of slack-key guitar and ‘ukulele. These styles originated in the early 19th century, when Portuguese immigrants introduced the ‘ukulele to Hawai‘i. Then, Mexican cowboys brought guitars to the islands, along with their ranching knowledge. Hawaiians have made these instruments their own.

Jontavious Willis

Jontavious Willis’s sole mission is to reinvigorate today’s blues with the spirit of the past. He is inspired by a time when the blues were plentiful, and rhythm reigned supreme. Here, Jontavious leverages his unique sound—a synthesis of his Georgia heritage and reverence for traditional blues—to get the world dancing again. A Grammy-nominated musician and songwriter, Jontavious performs original, toe-tapping tunes in the style of Delta, Piedmont, Texas, and Gospel blues.

John Grant

John Grant conceived of 2024’s The Art of The Lie in the Autumn of 2022. Earlier that year, John met Ivor Guest, producer and composer at Grace Jones’ Southbank show, the finale of her Meltdown Festival. There, they began talking about two records Guest had worked on, Hurricane for Jones, Prohibition for Brigitte Fontaine. “Grace and Brigitte are two very big artists for me,” says Grant. “I love the albums he did for them.

Joe Lovano’s Paramount Quartet

Grammy-winning titan of jazz saxophone Joe Lovano and virtuoso guitarist Julian Lage have enjoyed a long journey of mutual admiration. They first met in 1999 at Yoshi’s in Oakland, where Joe was performing with McCoy Tyner. Julian’s father brought the young prodigy to the show, and it was there he connected with Joe. They kept in touch through the years before reuniting at Berklee College of Music.

"INTERSECTIONS" by Wendell Arneson

Groveland Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings by Northfield, Minnesota artist, Wendell Arneson. Arneson was a professor of fine art at St. Olaf College for 37 years, until his retirement in 2015. He has exhibited his work throughout the region for over 40 years. His paintings are part of numerous collections including Ford Motor Company, Prudential Life Insurance, 3M Corporation, US Bank, General Motors Corporation, Princeton University and the Hillstrom Museum of Art.
