Join Jokeda “JoJo” Bell for a Black History Month program about Black actress and activist Hilda Simms. Red Stained: The Life of Hilda Simms, the first full biography of her life and career, weaves primary research with a narrative style to tell the true story of Hilda Simms in the context of a nation gripped in the Cold War and a burgeoning civil rights movement. It is an examination of Simms's rise to fame, her drive to be a respected dramatic actress, and her efforts to create equal opportunities for people of color on stage, on the screen, and behind the camera.
North Star Voices, a unique series highlighting some of Minnesota’s hidden, forgotten, or otherwise off-pavement landscapes and outdoor experiences, is returning to the Minnesota History Center this fall. Join historian Bruce White as he discusses his new book They Would Not Be Moved: The Enduring Struggle of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe to Keep Their Reservation. Our discussion with Bruce White is in partnership with MNHS Press and the first of five programs for the North Star Voices Series.

Jess Williamson's new album, 2023's Time Ain’t Accidental, evokes iconic Western landscapes, tear-in-beer anthems, and a wholly modern take on country music. It showcases Williamson’s voice, crystalline and acrobatic in its range, standing front and center.
