Minnesota's Best B&Bs

By Lisa Meyers McClintick

Whether you are seeking a romantic escape or a weekend of welcome luxury and relaxation, Minnesota's bed and breakfasts blend local expertise, multi-course dining, and unique architecture and settings. Each residence tells its own story, from late 1800s mansions with literary themes to a modern home along a Lake Superior beach.

Owners and operators ensure the coffee’s ready early, and the aroma of warm pastries and hearty dishes greet guests in the morning and set them up for a day of exploring. As a bonus, you might find extras like evening hors d’oeuvres, garden hot tubs, pop-up speakeasys, and craft beers.

Lanesboro

Small historic towns provide ideal settings for bed and breakfasts with easy-to-walk-to attractions and laid-back charm. Lanesboro, a community of just over 700 residents, tucks along the scenic bluffs of southeastern Minnesota’s Root River Valley and claims the title of Bed and Breakfast Capital of Minnesota.

It draws travelers looking for bike trails to pedal or a river to paddle, along with caves, farm-to-fork meals, and cultural activities like gallery tours and shows at Commonweal Theater.
