Midwesterners make up the heart of America; we live and work among the farmlands, the Great North Woods, and factories and industries. It’s time to take a look at the people who have called this place home by looking at the history of the region and its people and where to find the documents to fill out our ancestors’ stories.

Eleanor Brinsko is a genealogist who does European-American genealogy by looking at genealogical and social trends on both sides of the Atlantic. She has given presentations for genealogy societies, historical societies, family reunions, and libraries across North America and presented for RootsTech 2026.

As part of the upcoming Semiquincentennial (250th) anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence, we are offering an "America 250 Genealogy" series to help you uncover your family's history. The series can be taken as a whole, or in individual sections. We will focus on different aspects of genealogy research and provide workshops where you can visit the museum to get help when and where needed. This series is in partnership with the Dakota County Historical Society, the Minnesota Genealogical Society, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
