Northeast Minnesota Travel Advisory
August 2026 Update
Current conditions have improved since wildfires broke out in Northeast Minnesota in July 2026. Firefighters have made steady progress containing the fires, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is reopening in phases for both overnight and day permits, and air quality has been good or moderate across the region.

Current Air Quality Conditions (Minnesota Pollution Control Agency)
The MPCA's Air Quality Index tool displays the reported AQI for fine particulates (PM2.5) and ozone at monitors located across Minnesota.
