About

The Science Museum of Minnesota is proud to present Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identity —the museum's latest temporary exhibit that invites visitors to explore this uniquely complex organ as a biological marvel across all organisms and as a cultural symbol in human identity.

Through striking specimen collections and interactive experiences, Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identity reveals how this biological armor protects and adapts across humans and animals. Visitors can also explore the shape-shifting and color-changing nature of skin and the technology and innovations it inspires. Skin goes even deeper and examines the ways human societies have interpreted and assigned meaning to skin color throughout history. The exhibit encourages dialogue and reflection on how our social and political climates continue to shape perceptions of race, identity, and culture today.
