Minneapolis-St. Paul's Best Gyms and Fitness Centers
Minnesota is well-known for its statewide access to stellar outdoor recreation. But that doesn’t mean its gym scene is lacking, especially in the metro area surrounding Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Turns out Minnesota is one of the country’s most active states, with the vast majority of adults regularly exercising outside of work. That means there are plenty of gyms and fitness centers in the Twin Cities that are unique to the area.
We are a bit of a fitness hotspot, actually; several of our locally based gyms have grand ambitions and a national presence. Life Time Fitness is the clearest example. While the publicly traded company has more than 170 athletic centers spread across 29 states and Toronto, it’s headquartered right here in Eden Prairie and has about two dozen clubs in its home state.
Another example is Anytime Fitness. The 24-hour gym is a billion-dollar company with more than 5,000 franchise locations and a central office in the Woodbury suburb.
Those are just the major players. Minnesotans love their Minnesotan-owned gyms, of which there are many. From large state-of-the-art facilities to intimate boutique studios, the Twin Cities have something for everyone. Here are some of our favorites, broken down by specialty.
