The wildlife area is divided between two separate units. Rainbow Island subunit is located between General Shields Lake and Little Mud Lake. Its name reflects the colorful fall display exhibited by the maple, basswood and oak forests. The main unit is located along the Cannon river and the west shore of General Shields Lake.
