Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon

Garry Bjorklund won the inaugural Grandma’s Marathon in 1977 and was again the champion in 1980.

While that may be his local claim to fame, the Duluth area native also represented the United States in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, placing 13th in the 10,000-meters.

In 1991, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon was created to recognize his lifelong contributions to running throughout the area and state of Minnesota.

The Frozen River Film Festival offers programs that engage, educate and activate viewers to become involved in the world. These programs provide a unique perspective on environmental issues, sustainable communities, adventure travel and sports, and diverse cultures while showcasing the art of documentary film. Our films often explore issues, concerns, and life’s successes that are usually not covered in the local media.

Race day:
Race start time is 9:00 am.
The start location will be at the crosswalk in front of Zorbaz.
Plan to be at the stage in the North room of Zorbaz ten minutes ahead of your start time for the prerace meeting.

Fourth of July Fireworks

Spend the day in Allison Park from 11am-3pm as our Knights of Columbus serve up burgers, hotdogs, beverages and all the extras!
Stick around until dusk (9:45ish) for the always spectacular fireworks display over Sleepy Eye Lake provided by our Sleepy Eye Fire Department.**Please note this is a weather pending event, so be sure to check back here for the latest announcements. Remember our fire department puts safety first, so if you're worried about missing the show, arrive early and have a memorable night!

Spring Flower Show

The Arboretum’s annual Spring Flower Show is back! Get an early taste of spring with thousands of plants, including spring bulbs, orchids and tropicals, on display in the Oswald Visitor Center and Snyder Building. This year’s show explores the theme of “water,” drawing inspiration from Minnesota’s lakes, rivers and wetlands and the life they support.

The Spring Flower Show is included with general daily admission, which will be available in early January.

Fitger's 5K Run and Walk

Kick-Off Spring at the Fitger's 5K race!

The USATF-certified, chip-timed 3.1-mile race travels along Superior Street starting and ending back at Fitger’s. Welcome to the 2nd of 3 KP Challenge races!

Registration for the Fitger’s 5K will be available at grandmasmarathon.com!

All net proceeds from the Fitger’s 5K benefit the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF).

February Festival

A fun winter festival the whole family can enjoy. Stop by Lake Ann Park for all the best winter activities! There will be an ice fishing contest (pre-registration is encouraged) a snow shoe demonstration, horse drawn sleigh rides, fat tire bike demos, sled dogs, concession to purchase and more!
