Head to the lakeshore to watch museum staff process wild rice using traditional methods including parching, threshing, and winnowing the rice. See the entire process from raw to finished product during 20-minute demonstrations offered on the hour.

Threshing Days

Learn about Minnesota’s historic role as the “bread basket of the world”. Help bring grain bundles in from the fields and lend our threshing crew a hand.

Shadows & Spirits of the State Capitol

Join a one-hour guided tour of the restored State Capitol and wind your way through the shadowy corridors and chambers lit with the original early-1900s lighting. Along the way, visitors encounter historical "spirits" who tell stories of the Capitol's past.

River Keepers Monthly Volunteer Series: SDMP in Moorhead

Join us for our August Monthly Volunteer Series! Participate in our Storm Drain Marking Program. Help us mark storm drains with markers that say, "No Dumping, Drains to River" and hand out door hangers to nearby residents to reduce storm water pollution going to the Red River. This project is sponsored by the City of Moorhead.

Mixtape Magic is a high-energy tribute concert celebrating the catchiest one-hit wonders of the 1990s. From dance floor anthems to alt-rock jams and guilty pleasures you still know by heart! Dust off your Discman and crank up the nostalgia; One Night, All Hits, No Skips.

Pottery Day

In this "make and take" program, visitors can try their hand at building a pinch pot with various tools based on prehistoric examples. Attendees will be able work with cord-wrapped sticks, cord-wrapped paddles, and smoothing stones to shape and decorate a pot inspired by our historic examples. Cost is included in regular site admission.
