Woven Hanging Basket Class

Learn the foundational skills of basketry in this beginning basket weaving class! Students will learn basic beginning weaving steps including start/stop rows and creating a rim with lashing. Choices of flower colors will be available as well as optional birdhouse designs. This is a great introductory class for those who have little to no experience in basket weaving, or simply want to sharpen their techniques in basketry. Instructed by Sue Soenen of Mound Prairie Baskets.

Twin Cities Book Hop

Not a bar hop, but a Book Hop! Join us for a day of fun as we travel between Minneapolis bookstores exploring the independent bookstore markets and enjoy the local shops. From 10am-11:30pm a Book Fair at Open Book will be held, followed by the Hop. We will Hop from 12pm-4pm. Join us all after for a Book Club with the author! Food provided. LQBTQA+ friendly, everyone is welcome! This is a free event, no book minimum.

Textile Printing Class

Learn how to design your own bold, colorful textiles! In this class, students will learn how to design, place patterns, apply beautiful color combinations, plus a few secrets to make satisfying textiles for your home. Students will design and stencil fabric for their own unique 12×12 throw pillow. Instructed by Kirsten Aune of Kirsten Aune Textiles.

Strides Against Bladder Cancer

The UMN Department of Urology is hosting their annual Strides Against Bladder Cancer walk to raise funds and awareness for bladder cancer research. This family-friendly 3K walk takes place on Saturday, May 10 at Boom Island Park. All proceeds benefit bladder cancer research and education at the department's Institute for Prostate and Urologic Cancers. Each participant will receive a T-shirt at check-in. Small Handled Whisk Broom Class

Bring your creativity! Together, we'll make a small handled whisk using kitchen utensils, treasured sticks, rulers... you name it! Learn to master the foot bobbin, plait the broomcorn stems around the handle, and stitch the sweep flat. We will be working with all natural broomcorn, complemented by a rainbow of string color options. Feel free to bring your own handle; if you're not sure whether something will work, bring it along, and we can look at it together during class!

Slavic Folk Embroidery Class

Spanning from the Caspian Sea to the Carpathian Mountains, the Slavic world has a rich and dynamic history of craft embroidery practices, folk dress traditions, and creative rituals. Participants in this introductory course will have an opportunity to learn about some of the regional designs and histories of Slavic folk embroidery, experience a traditional Slavic tea service, and examine vibrant antique and archival textile samples of Slavic folk costumes.
