City House

The City House history begins in 1927, when the building first opened as the Saint Paul Municipal Elevator and Sackhouse along the Mississippi River. Before becoming a riverfront restaurant, City House played a major role in Saint Paul’s grain industry and the city’s identity as a Mississippi River port. What now serves as a gathering place once moved grain throughout the Twin Cities and helped support the agricultural economy of the region.

Slow Stitching

In this class, students will create a peaceful fabric landscape using a combination of cloth, lace, and simple appliqué techniques. Participants will learn foundational hand stitches used in slow stitching, as well as decorative embroidery stitches for embellishment and texture. We will explore how to layer fabrics, add collage-like elements, and build a composition that feels personal and expressive. Students will also learn how to incorporate recycled textiles or eco-printed fabrics to bring meaning and sustainability into their work.

Painting with Yarn

Experience a new way to make “paintings” – instead of brushstrokes of paint, you will use pieces of glued yarn to create your artwork. You will be able to choose from a selection of outlines to start from or you can create your own image. No experience is necessary, all materials will be provided. By the end of the class you will have a finished piece of framed art. Enjoy experimenting with this novel approach to fiber art!

Opera on the River

The premier outdoor music event of the year! Don't miss out on this larger-than-life live concert in Lowell Park in downtown Stillwater. Always a crowd-pleaser, this event will bring some of the industry's top vocal talent to this beautiful region of the country!

Over the course of his career Jim has written and recorded nine albums, with many of those accompanying singles charting in the top ten. Cole’s latest, a Christmas recording entitled Unto Us, peaked at #15 on the Billboard charts. Intro to Wet Felting

Get your hands on some wool as we learn the ancient and magical technique of wet felting! In this workshop, students will be learning the basics of felting while playing with color, texture, and composition to create a piece of wet felted fabric. No previous experience necessary. Please note: This is a pretty physical process, students must be able to stand for the majority of the workshop and move arms pretty rigorously.

Intro to Spoon Carving

Learn to carve a spoon using a straight blade knife and a hook knife to carve out the bowl of the birch cooking spoon. The class will cover learning some basic carving techniques using a straight blade helping understand the grain of the wood. Then starting with a roughed out spoon blank, you will work on crafting your spoon. The shaping is done with the straight blade, and then the bowl is carved out using a hook knife. The goal is to spend a couple hours carving, and leave with a finished cooking spoon! No previous experience required, all tools and materials will be provided.
