Bass Lake Hiking Trail

About

Two loops. Scenic overlooks and lakes, rocky ridges and areas with large pines. 3 backcountry campsites near trails. Small waterfall. Choice of hiking distances from 2 to 6 miles. Also a portage trail for the first 3/4 miles. The trail to the lake has been re-designed so that it is wider, more gentle slope, no tripping hazards, and a firmer surface. Unique geological history described on interpretive sign. Handout available from Forest Service offices.

Dates

Superior National Forest/Kawishiwi District Office: open Summer: May 1 - Sept 30, open daily 8:00am - 4:30pm. Winter: Oct 1 to Apr 30, open Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. Open Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Closed all other federal holidays.

Rates

Information is free. Access to the Superior National Forest outside the Wilderness is free. There are reservation and user fees for permits into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Bass Lake Hiking Trail is outside the Wilderness.
