Gammelgården Museum of Scandia

About

Step back in time at Gammelgården Museum and experience the daily lives of Swedish immigrants at our one-of-a-kind open-air museum dedicated to Swedish immigration in the United States. Explore the Immigrant House (1855), Minnesota’s oldest Lutheran church building (1856), the Pastor’s House parsonage (1868), the historic Barn (1879), and the Stuga, or peasants’ home (1930). Visit the Välkommen Hus (Welcome House) & Butik (Gift House) Visitor Center, featuring indoor exhibits, classes and workshops, and unique Swedish treasures.

Our scenic grounds include maintained walking paths connecting all historical buildings, free parking, picnic and playground facilities, group tours, and rotating indoor exhibits throughout the year. Visitors can also enjoy our free-to-access non-lending board game and book library, as well as our free seed and little book exchange.

Join us for seasonal celebrations, exhibits, and children’s programs offered year-round. Outdoor tours run from May through mid-October, with indoor events and specialty programming continuing through late-October into December. Don't miss our annual community festivals including Season Opening, Midsommar Celebration, and the Spelmansstämman Festival that are all hosted right here on our grounds.
For dates and details on all events, visit gammelgardenmuseum.org or call (651) 433-5053.
