The Great Northern Union is a community of men sharing a unique ability and passion to make a difference in the lives of others and our members through the thrilling musical experience we create together.

The Hilltop Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), and the Great Northern Union (GNU) chorus, were founded in 1985 with a single vision, “Fun through musical excellence”. Today that vision remains the guiding light through which the chapter strives to do everything with “excellence”.

Few chapters in the BHS have enjoyed the broad success that the GNU has experienced. Today, the GNU is recognized as one of the leaders in the BHS and the Midwest choral community on many levels, not just musically. The administration is full of very strong individuals who know how to do the right things at the right time. Financially, the chapter has never been stronger. And musically, the chorus continues to thrill audiences with a clean sound and energetic performance.

A passion to change people’s lives is at the center of this community of men. Our members are the strength of the chapter as we work to fulfill our mission.
