Norman County Historical & Genealogy Society
About
The Norman County Historical Society has two sites: The Prairie Village in Ada, and the Red River Museum in Shelly. Prairie Village is a great place to spend a few hours or all day. It features a self guided walking tour of 12 historic buildings. The beautiful log museum contains numerous displays documenting life in Norman County. This summer, which is the 20th anniversary of the Flood of '97, the museum will feature a display of flood related artifacts. Genealogy researchers seeking information regarding family history will find a vast amount of information on people who lived in Norman County. The Society is currently digitizing over 10,000 negatives of local people taken by Arne Aalgaard Photography from 1923 to the 1970's and is an invaluable resource to researchers. When you're in the area for family or class reunions, the log museum is a great place to connect with others. The coffee is always on! The Red River Museum located in the historic 1930’s art deco school building in Shelly features the counties military artifact collection and a collection of antique looms.
