<p>Pelican Rapids- A Bridge from the Past to the Future </p>

<p>Friday and Saturday, June 18 and 19, 2021, Pelican Rapids,
MN 56572</p>

<p>This event will recognize two important aspects of Pelican
Rapids: first, the 90th anniversary of the discovery of one of the oldest skeletons
ever unearthed in Minnesota (now known as Glacial Minnesota Woman), and the
sixteenth Pelican Rapids International Friendship Festival which celebrates the
wonderful diversity of the community.</p>

<p>Events will be happening in both Peterson Park and Sherin
Park, downtown Pelican Rapids, MN 56572 and venues nearby.</p>

<p>Highlighted on Friday are an art exhibit at the Pelican
Rapids Public Library in the afternoon and an evening dinner and presentation
by Sean Bloomfield, author of <i>Adventure North,</i> and Colton Witte, his
co-adventurer, at Fair Hills Resort on Pelican Lake.</p>

<p>Saturday begins with a kayak race on the Pelican River from
Hosterman Dam to the Mill Pond in the heart of Pelican Rapids followed by a
parade of canoes, kayaks, and non-motorized boats. </p>

<p>Archaeological activities, craft projects from around the
world, and Mexican piñatas will happen from 11 – 4. </p>

<p>Music, dance and ethnic foods will be available Saturday in
Sherin Park to celebrate the cultures of Pelican Rapids. Native American,
Mexican, Somali and cultures that settled Pelican Rapids will be
represented. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Saturday also includes an exploration of the geology of
Maplewood State Park led by Park Manager Don del Greco, and the opportunity to
view the exhibit of artists’ work portraying their visions of Glacial Minnesota
Woman and the ice age.</p>

<p>On Saturday evening join the community at the High School
Fine Arts Auditorium to view a display of student art and enjoy the performance
of the original play <i>Unveiling Nimuué</i>. </p>

<p>These events are sponsored by the Pelican Rapids
Multicultural Committee and the Glacial Minnesota Woman Organization with
financial help from Lake Region Arts Council, Minnesota Humanities Center and
individual donors.
