The abundant lakes, marshes, islands and small streams of the Pigeon Lake Important Bird Area (IBA) provide excellent foraging and nesting area for waterbirds like herons, egrets, pelicans, and cormorants as well as many other wildlife.The best way to view the waterbird colony is from the MNDOT scenic overlook off Hwy 15. Please do not take a boat to see them. Nesting waterbirds do not tolerate disturbances, which may result in loss of eggs or young. Best viewed spring/summer.
