About

Pine Island is located in southeast Minnesota along the beautiful banks of the Middle Fork of the Zumbro River and was given its name by the American Indian term Wa-zu-wee-ta which translates to Island of Pines. Pine Island is rich with Minnesota history which can be found throughout its historic Main Street, at the History Center and at the creamery building at the city park.

Pine Island is the home of the Douglas Trail which dates back from 1902 and crosses outstanding rural scenery, traversing some of the richest agricultural land in Minnesota from forest and rolling fields to pastures and country roads. Explore the Douglas Trail on foot, horseback or on two wheels utilizing the Borrow-A-Bike program located right at the edge of the trail in the City Park.
