Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge

The Refuge covers about 240,000 acres of floodplain in a stretch of 261 river-miles from Wabasha, MN to Rock Island, IL. The Refuge is known for spectacular fall colors and migrating waterfowl. Tundra swans are spectacular in mid-November. Bald eagles have over 200 nests on the refuge and number over 3,000 during the spring migration in March. Camping, canoe trails, hunting, fishing and wildlife observation are available. The Upper Mississippi Wildlife Refuge office is located in Winona and is open Monday-Friday 7:30 - 4:00 p.m. and closed on Federal Holidays.
