About
The Southern Minnesota Book and Art Festival comes to the Henderson Event Center, 514 Main Street in Henderson, MN on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 10 am- 6 pm. The festival celebrates the best in emergent national and regional literature and arts. This free one-day event features authors, storytellers, publishers and booksellers; regional artists; antiques, collectibles, and crafts; a children's pavilion; book readings; and author signings.
Independent publishers, including 11:11 Press; Sic Semper Serpent; Wise Ink Creative Publishing; Yellow Medicine Press; Strive Publishing; and Lakeside Press, will offer book sales. Live readings will be done by Vincent James Perrone, Mike Corrao, A.S. Coomer, T. Martin Crouse, D. Zane Davis, Nathaniel Hicklin, Christine Bauer, Darby Nelson, and Judy Wilson. Book sales by Minnesota historian Patricia Lubeck; Loyall Wilson; Ray Frigard; Forrest Peterson; Gina Crusor-Price; John Paul McGee; Kelly Masters; Carver County Historical Society; Sibley County Historical Society; Super Bliss Vintage; and Once Read Books. The children’s pavilion will include activities, readings, and book sales by Sabina Mugassa Bingman; Dr. Claudia May; Anna Ostenso-Moore; Kaisa Taipale; and living-history performer Annette Laing who will be giving a short performance recalling the experience of British children during WWII. Book artists Phyllis Joos and Carley Frei from Fiction Reshaped will display and sell their work.
Free-will donations will be accepted during this event and will benefit The Arlington Book Project, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides cost-free education support, tutoring, GED preparation, and access to a wide range of learning materials, to area youths and adults.
With an emphasis on emergent national and regional authors and artists, the Southern Minnesota Book and Art Festival brings the community together to celebrate what’s new in the literary and visual arts.
This activity is funded, in part, by the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council with an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund.
