About
The shores and waters around Split Rock Lighthouse State Park are an ideal place for paddlers to learn about sea kayaking and explore the natural and cultural wonders of this great lake. Wolf Ridge’s kayak guides combine storytelling, and interpretation to bring the history of Lake Superior alive!
All tours start and finish back at Split Rock State Park's Pebble Beach.
After an orientation session on Pebble Beach in Split Rock State Park, paddlers will make a circuit of this old fishing harbor to develop a feel for their kayaks and paddling. Where the bay meets the open lake, tours can either head towards the Split Rock Lighthouse, which is perched upon magnificent cliffs of anorthosite, and continue on to the site of the Madeira shipwreck below Gold Rock Point, or down-shore past ancient lava flows toward Corundum Point, a traditional peregrine falcon nesting site. Both options afford inspiring views of the rugged shoreline, and possibilities for wildlife sightings.
