Workshops are based at the Wolf Ridge campus and nearby natural areas, with lodging and meals included. Designed for lifelong learners, the weekend welcomes both seasoned naturalists and curious beginners. Explore the fascinating history and cultural landscape of Highway 61, the iconic road that winds along Lake Superior from Duluth to the Canadian border. From fishing villages and logging sites to lighthouses, parks, and roadside attractions, Alanen highlights the people and places that shaped one of the Midwest’s most beloved byways.

Reception for 'Waterways'

Join us for an artist reception on Friday, September 26 from 6-8 p.m. for Waterways! This exhibition features artwork that reflects on rivers and the other bodies of water that are foundational to human life. This event is free and open to all! Light refreshments will be provided.

Duluth Drag Races & Car Show

The only legalized drag racing on a public street in the whole nation! Join us down at Garfield Avenue in Duluth as 150 vehicles race head to head down the 1/8 mile strip. Don't miss out on one of the largest car shows in the state! Gates open to the public starting at 9:00am.

The Model Circus Trains Are Back!

Check out the Circus Trains during all open hours in September! 

See our popular O-Scale train (over 60’ long) which consists of animal cars, passenger cars, and special circus flat cars, each loaded with hand-made special circus wagons plus a Parade thru “Hamline” and wagon unloading show on the “big” layout.

Additional layouts will each feature Circus trains and / or displays in their own scale.
This event is inspired by Circus World Museum in Baraboo Wisconsin.
