Located in Kabetogama State Forest, managed by Soudan Underground Mine State Park. The 11 boat-in campsites are considered "primitive," designed to furnish only the basic needs of the camper. The campsites consist of a cleared area, fire ring, bear box, primitive toilet, and table. Hinsdale Island is a remote and rustic campsite area, one of only a few boat-in only sites on Lake Vermilion.
Enjoy the beauty and grandeur of this century-old Victorian home built by one of Luverne's founding father's, R. B. Hinkly. The home was constructed out of Sioux quartzite mined from his quarry which is now part of Blue Mounds State Park has been painstakingly restored. Walk through time as you visit the three floors of this home; including a trip through the tunnel to the hidden dynamite store-room. The Hinkly House is maintained in turn-of-the-century splendor by the Rock County Historical Society.
The Hinckley Fire Museum is located in the former Saint Paul & Duluth Railroad Depot, rebuilt in the wake of fire to replicate the previous train station.
The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and remains largely unchanged.
Inside, you’ll see artifacts from the 1890’s that made it through the fire and hear some of the many stories from that terrible September day, which remains one of the largest wildfire disasters in history.
