Havoc at the Pavek: Haunted Manor

The Pavek Museum brings back the thrilling Havoc at the Pavek, and this year’s theme is Haunted Manor! This one-of-a-kind scavenger hunt-style experience is a STEM adventure that takes you through the history of electronic communication but with a ghostly twist. Journey through a series of STEM activities hidden throughout the museum, collecting pieces along the way to build a special artifact that will help remove the ghosts!

They’ll explore how storytelling, civic dialogue, and media ethics—transparency, fairness, and accountability—can rebuild trust and help bridge divides across journalism, media, and education.

Spend a fall weekend on Minnesota’s North Shore exploring the geology of the Lake Superior region. This hands-on workshop introduces the forces that shaped the area, with a focus on the formation of Lake Superior agates—Minnesota’s state gemstone.

Learn how to identify agates, discover the best hunting techniques, and then practice your skills during a field trip in the scenic Finland area, where you can search for your own treasures.

Weekends at Wolf Ridge: Migration Stories

Spend a glorious fall weekend on Minnesota’s North Shore gaining hands-on experience and learning from expert naturalists.

Workshops are based at the Wolf Ridge campus and nearby natural areas, with lodging and meals included. Designed for lifelong learners, the weekend welcomes both seasoned naturalists and curious beginners. Participants choose one workshop but enjoy shared meals and evening programs with others, creating a rich community of discovery.

From fishing villages and logging sites to lighthouses, parks, and roadside attractions, Alanen highlights the people and places that shaped one of the Midwest’s most beloved byways.
