Karl Ove Knausgård & Glenn Kotche: Historia Film by Johan Renck

Writer Karl Ove Knausgård (My Struggle, The Morning Star) and composer/percussionist Glenn Kotche (Wilco) unite for an immersive afternoon of words and music that celebrates collaboration, craft, and friendship. With visuals by director Johan Renck (HBO's Chernobyl, David Bowie's Blackstar), the program features the premiere of a new work that weaves together Knausgård's textual prowess and Kotche's sonic explorations. Readings and performances of both new and familiar pieces from each collaborator provide deeper context.

Karen Sieber: New research on William Crossley & Nance Legins-Costley

The History Center welcomes the return of researcher, author, & social justice advocate Karen Sieber! Many may know that William Crossley is buried in Rochester, but do they know the entire story? Crossley, along with his mother, Nance Legins-Costley, were the first former enslaved people to be freed by Abraham Lincoln. But just how did he end up in Rochester & what role did he play in the first Juneteenth? Join us at the History Center on Tuesday, June 17th at 7:00 pm to learn more!

Juneteenth Food Truck Festival

Join the City of Marshall in celebrating Juneteenth! Juneteenth, or “Freedom Day," recognizes the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation, officially ending slavery. For this reason, June 19, 1865, marks our country’s second Independence Day.
On Thursday, June 19th, the City of Marshall will be celebrating Juneteenth in multiple ways. There will be two separate events: Juneteenth Celebration and Juneteenth Food Truck Festival.

In its 31st year, the House of Hope Presbyterian Church hosts a July Carillon Music Series. This is an outdoor concert played on the 49 bells of the Noyes Memorial Carillon. Recitalist for July 6 is Carson Landry of the University of Rochester. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic basket of snacks and enjoy the music on this illustrious carillon in the historic neighborhood of Summit Avenue. Free.

In its 31st year, the House of Hope Presbyterian Church hosts a July Carillon Music Series. This is an outdoor concert played on the 49 bells of the Noyes Memorial Carillon. Recitalist for July 13 is Annie Gao of Los Angeles and a recent graduate of Yale University. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic basket of snacks and enjoy the music on this illustrious carillon in the historic neighborhood of Summit Avenue. Free.
