Where to Find Ice Mazes, Sculptures, Bars and Festivals in Minnesota

While we’d rather not deal with it on our drive to work, ice is the driving force in many popular activities throughout Minnesota during winter. We’re not just talking about heated fish house hangs and a wide range of ice rinks, either. Frosty mazes, bars, sculptures and festivals are a mainstay throughout the deep freeze season. Here is a breakdown that covers every corner of the state.

Winter SKOLstice

Life in Fresh Air happens at Viking Lakes, Eagan MN! Winter SKOLstice at Viking Lakes is back for its second year. Free and open to the public, there's fun for all ages and skill levels, from competition sports to learning something new on the ice to enjoying the winter atmosphere on the trails.

Pond Hockey: Play and Skate under the lights on our pond hockey rinks.

The rinks will be open for public use daily, but check back later for specific timeframes.

Red Pine Winery

We are a farm winery located just off of Highway 65 between Cambridge and Isanti.  We produce our wine in small batches and with minimal processing.  Our focus is on quality and taking the time that each wine requires to reach its fullest potential.

We grow Marquette, Crimson Pearl, Itasca and Frontenac Blanc grapes on site in our vineyard.  We also purchase fruit from other Minnesota growers.   In order to provide a diverse tasting experience, we also make some wines from Viognier and Muscat grapes grown in Northern California.

The Historic Gilbert Mansion

Experience the opulence and grandeur of days gone by at the Gilbert Mansion; Northern Minnesota's premiere Bed & Breakfast. A private residence for more than a century, the mansion has remained virtually unchanged. As you enter through the massive front door surrounded by gleaming leaded glass, it’s is as if you have been transported back in time. Completely furnished in period antiques including many of the original owners’ items, the Gilbert Mansion provides an atmosphere unlike anything in the area.

Cory Lee's Favorite Wheelchair-Accessible Attractions in Minnesota

With Minnesota being known as the “Land of 10,000 lakes,” you may assume it isn’t the most wheelchair-friendly state. After all, wheelchairs and water tend not to mix very well.

However, Minnesota has a ton of wheelchair-accessible attractions. Here are some of my favorites.

Where to See Frank Lloyd Wright’s Work in Minnesota

Frank Lloyd Wright may have been born in Wisconsin and based in Spring Green for much of his life, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t leave an indelible mark on Minnesota during his reign as one of architecture’s only true rock stars.

While most of the state’s 13 sites are privately owned — including homes in Rochester, Stillwater and St. Louis Park — several can be toured or seen in person to put Wright’s progressive ideas in perspective better than any book or Ken Burns doc ever could.
