Houston Area Chamber of Commerce

About

Houston is the gateway to the Root River Bike Trail in Southeastern Minnesota's Historic Bluff Country. Attractions include hiking, biking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, hunting and more.

Being your Root River Trail adventure at Houston's Trailhead Park. With a Nature Center, natural playground, and primitive camping, clean restrooms and free showers, it's a great stop or start to your trail ride. The park also sports recycled bicycle art, a walk-in tent camping area, picnic shelter, band shell, and native prairie plantings lining the trail. Also be sure to visit the International Owl Center, an all-owl education and research facility with live owls and programs.

There's plenty to do outdoors around Houston besides biking. Deer hunters can try their luck for one of the area's big bucks, and turkey hunters can test their mettle against their wily prey. Houston offers close access to the Oak Ridge/Wet Bark Recreation Area and Mound Prairie Scientific & Natural Areas.

Festivals and events come in all shapes and sizes in Houston, from Houston Hoedown Days in July to the International Festival of Owls in March to the Root River Triathlon in May.
