The Rochester Honkers are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. The Northwoods League (NWL) is a summer collegiate league which provides a place for the best college players in the country to spend their summers and display their talents to professional scouts. Every player in the NWL must be enrolled in college and have at least one year of athletic eligibility to participate in the NWL and due to NCAA regulations, the players cannot get paid while playing in the NWL. The league is designed to give college players the minor league experience by playing 72 games in 76 days, playing with wood bats, traveling on charter buses, and staying in hotels while on the road.
