Marketfest

Marketfest is a summer festival in beautiful downtown White Bear Lake. Each week two stages offer live concerts showcasing local bands from diverse musical genres including jazz, blues, rock, folk, country, and funk. The festival features children's games and activities, a petting zoo, and a classic car show. More than 160 vendors offer a wide variety of arts, crafts, merchandise, services and foods.

Mark Morris Dance Group

Created for the City of Liverpool to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Pepperland is a joyous display of Mark Morris' choreographic wit and musicality. Ethan Iverson's original score reimagines selections from the iconic 1967 album in bold new arrangements performed by a lively jazz ensemble of trombone, theremin, vocals, sax, keyboards, and percussion.

Mark Herman: Landmarks

Mark Herman creates digital images and fine art prints of Minnesota’s favorite natural and manmade landmarks in his distinctive, colorful, and vintage-poster-inspired style. His prints feature beloved locations such as Lake Superior, the North Shore, the Mississippi River, many of Minnesota’s favorite lakes, as well as images of popular parks, iconic buildings, boats, and bridges.

Marie and Rosetta

Bringing fierce guitar playing and swing to gospel music, Sister Rosetta Tharpe influenced rock musicians from Elvis to Jimi Hendrix and Ray Charles. The story begins in a funeral parlor in Mississippi, as Rosetta and her young protege, Marie Knight, prepare for a tour that will establish them as a great musical duo. Hear renditions of spirituals like “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?” and “Sit Down,” to distinctly non-religious songs like “I Want a Tall Skinny Papa.”

March 2020 Exhibits + Events: Serenity Barden and Keewatin Elementary

In March 2020, MacRostie Art Center will host two new exhibits.

In the MacRostie Gallery, Serenity Barden will display her detailed, realistic oil portraits in her first solo exhibition. In the Minnesota Gallery, the work of Keewatin Elementary students will be presented in a show celebrating youth artists.

Mapping Black Identities

Taking inspiration from Mia's recent acquisition of Frank Bowling's map painting False Start (1970), "Mapping Black Identities" challenges the notion of Black identity as monolithic. Championing the diverse experiences of artists from America, Africa, and the diaspora, this exhibition seeks to amplify underrepresented voices and create connections around the concept of Blackness in contemporary art across time and place.

Maple Fest

The Arboretum is home to 18 species of maple trees including the four most commonly tapped for their sap; sugar maple, silver maple, red maple and boxelder. Sugar maple is considered the best tree to tap because it generally has the highest sugar content. In honor of these amazing trees, the Arboretum is celebrating Maple Fest!
