Cine Latino returns October 8-12 to The Main Cinema for five days of Spanish and Portuguese language films, special guests, fiestas, food trucks, and more!

The 13th annual celebration of the best Latin American, US Latinx, and Ibero Cinema pays homage to the longstanding film industries throughout the Spanish and Portuguese speaking diaspora by showcasing the diversity of their inhabitants, the immense beauty of their geographies, and the magic of their many cultures through the power of film.

Genealogy Zoom class: Using Timelines in Your Research

Looking for ways to expand and enhance your family history? The History Center of Olmsted County, in partnership with the Olmsted County Genealogy Society, is hosting a Zoom class with genealogy expert Lois Abromitis on Thursday, August 14 at 7 pm. This class will teach you how to use timelines for your research. This special event is $15 for HCOC members and $20 for non-members. Included in the price are two additional sessions of your choice with the Olmsted County Genealogy Society.

Portrait of a Lady

Portrait of a Lady, opening August 12 and running through October 23, shines a light on the life of Florence Rose Castor—an accomplished, university-educated woman from Waseca County whose promising career as a German teacher was cut short by wartime fear, personal injury, and the societal stigma surrounding mental health. Institutionalized and later abandoned by her family, Florence’s story was nearly lost to history. Until now.

Heartland Marimba Quartet Concert

Experience an orchestra of wooden sounds in an unforgettable concert of marimbas! Celebrate Heartland Marimba Quartet's 11th Season with a concert at the Center For Performing Arts on August 10 at 7:30PM-8:45PM. This concert is the culmination of the "Evolve Tour". The music is the sound of four large marimbas performed by marimba virtuosos from across the country. Program will include concert works by Wiese, Tanaka, Mendelssohn, and others. $30/$15 General/Students&Seniors

Gangsterland On The Hill

Exciting stories about public enemies who wreaked havoc in the Grand Avenue neighborhood! Dillinger, the Barkers, DeVol and others. Learn about a kidnapping which changed the course of the Gangster Era...and about a crook who was captured by police wearing only underwear, socks and a fur coat. Gangsterland Downtown

Take an entertaining stroll along the same downtown Saint Paul streets frequented by infamous gangsters of the 1930’s! Learn why St. Paul rolled out the red carpet for the likes of John Dillinger, the Barker brothers, Alvin Karpis and many others. Columbia Heights Monarch Festival

The National Wildlife Federation’s Mayors’ Monarch Pledge encourages communities to create habitats for the monarch butterfly and other pollinators and educate residents about how to make a difference. As part of the Monarch Pledge, the City will hold a Monarch Festival on Aug 14 from 4-7 pm (Huset Park) with activities and entertainment celebrating pollinators.
