Illustrating Nature in Pen & Watercolor

The world around us is full of beautiful colors, textures, and lines. In this class, you will be instructed in drawing and painting techniques used to illustrate the nature around you. After creating some paintings together with a step-by-step demonstration, you will be given time to explore and try out your new skills on your own. This class will leave you filled with a new appreciation for the intricacies of nature, and proud of yourself for learning skills to document it.

Hawk Tail Whisk Broom

Come learn another hand whisk pattern! These whisk brooms have a more symmetrical splay, representing the iconic broom shape most people envision. Practice a variety of weaving patterns to give your little broom handle its own personality, choose from a collection of string colors, learn how to section the broomcorn, and master the foot bobbin. With proper care, these whisk brooms will long outlast any synthetic broom that you can buy from a store, and they will create a beautiful talking piece hanging on your wall!

Botanical Printing with Indigo

Botanical printing is a form of bundle dyeing where textiles are tightly bundled with plants and steamed; releasing naturally occurring tannins, pigments, and acids to create one-of-a-kind prints. In this introductory class, students will learn how different mordants influence the colors produced, and the best technique for creating crisp prints from local foliage. Students will print a silk and wool scarf using only leaves and flowers. While our bundles steam, we will look at more examples and take questions before the un-bundling and big reveal.
