Rice Lake State Park

Long ago, American Indians harvested wild rice from this lake where today, the shallow waters and marshy edges of Rice Lake attract many waterfowl during migrations. Rice Lake is a major wetland in the area. Visitors enjoy camping under the tall hardwoods, photographing spring wildflowers, picnicking, and birdwatching. For a more secluded camping experience, paddle across the lake and camp in a canoe campsite. Winter activities include cross-country skiing on packed snow multi-use trails and snowmobiling on dedicated groomed trails. Hike on 5 miles of trails. Canoe rental available.

Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge

Located five miles south of McGregor on Hwy 65, this 18,000 acre National Wildlife Refuge offers year-round wildlife and recreational opportunities in a mixture of forest, bog, upland and open water habitats. Over 220 species of birds, 40 species of mammals, and 16 species of reptiles and amphibians can be found on the refuge.The Visitor Center is generally open M-F 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Call 218-768-2402 for more information; the Refuge is open year-round sunrise to sunset. The refuge offers 14 miles of scenic roads in it's auto tour route and more than 7 miles of walking trails.

Rice Creek Lodge & Cabin

Rice Creek Lodge offers five spacious bedrooms that you can relax in. All the upstairs suites open up to large decks overlooking the scenery of our world class hunting preserve. The Walter Peek Suite, which is handicap accessible, on the main level, opens up to a beautiful patio area. Each suite has its own private full bathroom.

The "NEW" Cabin is five bedroom cabin, has three bathrooms, and a full kitchen. There are several televisions, also. Dogs are allowed to stay in the house.

Rice Creek Campgrounds

Rice Creek Campground, located in the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve, offers 5,000 and more acres of natural and scenic wilderness, only 25 minutes from Minneapolis / St. Paul.

Biking, fishing, boating, golf, and swimming are just a few of the many activities you will find within the park. Nature programs are held regularly at the campground amphitheater and at nearby Wargo Nature Center (one mile north of the campground).

You can also get in a quick round of golf at Chomonix Golf Course, located just a mile down the road.

Rice County Historical Society Museum

The Museum of History includes displays on local history topics from pre-contact Native Americans to 20th century. There is a Research Center with genealogical information, and small gift shop. The society also has an 1850s log cabin, 1860s Church, 1850s one room school School and an agricultural annex; these are open by appt and special events. Home of Alexander Faribault is nearby. Alexander Faribault was the founder of Faribault.
