Mille Lacs Moraine SNA

Steep, forested slopes, small lakes and wetlands characterize the landscape of this 318-acre site. The topography reflects the most recent glacial era, roughly 15,000 years before present, when an advancing glacier stalled, then retreated, depositing rock and debris as a moraine along its melting edge. Within the SNA, this moraine explains the abrupt, 160' rise in elevation to the west and south of Sunfish Lake.
