The history of the golden age of jazz can be told through tenor saxophonists. The Sophisticated Giant, Dexter Gordon was one of the most influential voices of early bebop. There, he was the bridge between Coleman Hawkins and Coltrane and Rollins. The Titan, John Coltrane made his mark early on Kind of Blue. Then, he went on to create some of the most thrilling, soul-searching music of the 1960s. The Searcher, Wayne Shorter came out of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers.
