One of the best musicians to emerge from the Twin Cities, St. Paul appeared in Purple Rain as a teenage wunderkind, playing keys with The Time on hits like “Jungle Love” and “The Bird.” He was hand-picked by Prince himself to be the lead singer of The Family (best known for “Nothing Compares 2 U”) on Prince’s Paisley Park label.
Sophia Shorai, a contemporary jazz vocalist and singer/songwriter, is a mainstay on the Twin Cities music scene. Born in Bindura, Zimbabwe (hence, her middle name Shorai), she began classical piano and voice training at age five. She spent her early childhood mimicking the voices and instrumentation of jazz legends in her father’s record collection. Then, this gave rise to exploring the Golden Age of standards in her early teens.

Students of Stroia Dance Studios perform their annual holiday show. Mysterious Herr Drosselmeyer gifts a magical Nutcracker toy to his goddaughter, Clara Stahlbaum. As the clock strikes midnight, the Nutcracker comes to life and battles the Queen Mouse and her evil band of mice. Clara and the Nutcracker travel to the Land of Sweets, where the Queen Mouse is defeated and all the land celebrates with beautiful dancing, culminating with the performance of the iconic Sugar Plum Fairy.
Enjoy six speakers and two performing artists in an evening modeled after the world-renowned annual TED Conference. In the spirit of Ideas Worth Spreading, TED created a program called TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but all TEDx events, including theirs, are self-organized by an all-volunteer team.
The purpose of the Mankato Area Growers’ Association is to create, promote, and operate a farmers’ market within the Mankato area that provides area producers a place to sell their handmade and homegrown products.
