Dark Sky Festival

Cook County is home to some of the darkest skies in the world. Every year, explorers, adventurers, artists and photographers from around the world travel to Cook County to experience the northern lights, the Milky Way, and the wonders of the northern night sky. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) has been named as one of only 15 certified International Dark Sky Sanctuaries in the world! And at over a million acres, it is the largest.

The Mousetrap

During a heavy snowstorm, newlyweds Mollie and Giles Ralston prepare to open Monkswell Manor for their first guests: the nitpicky Mrs. Boyle; the cagey Miss Casewell visiting from abroad; the young architect Christopher Wren; the good-natured Major Metcalf; and the roguish, unexpected guest Mr. Paravicini. As the snow proves impassable, Detective Sergeant Trotter arrives on skis with news that connects the manor to a mysterious murder in London. When the phone lines are cut and a guest turns up dead, everyone becomes a suspect. Will the killer be discovered in time?

This annual event transforms the downtown area into a vibrant marketplace, featuring sidewalk sales with exclusive discounts and promotions from local businesses. Participating retailers throughout the city will offer special deals, making it the perfect time to shop for everything from clothing and home decor to unique gifts and treats.?

Community Garage Sale & Artist Village

Browse the Community Garage Sale, then enjoy sandwiches served up to benefit the Longville Firemen, available till they're gone, and pie, whole or by the slice, sold by the Longville Chamber of Commerce.

Also Arts/Crafts/Music Outdoor Show at the Historical Building, sponsored by the Longville Lakes Arts Alliance.

Community Christmas Lighting Celebration

Old-fashioned town lighting celebration with bonfire, horse-drawn wagon rides, hot chocolate and hotdogs, Christmas carols, and the official lighting of the Christmas tree. Santa stops by to visit with the children. And it's all free!

3-4:30 pm -- Free photos with Santa sponsored by Longville Area Women of Today at Patricks.

4-6 pm -- Official Lighting of the Christmas Tree on Main Street with snacks and Christmas carols sponsored by the Longville Chamber of Commerce
